10 Greatest Wrestling Logic Fails
1. Finishers
Finishing moves are silly per sé, but they’re also great fun. Would the Stone Cold Stunner really cause you to convulse like a recently caught trout? No, but it’s a great visual with its own internal logic. All fine.
What makes less sense are the finishing moves that are just regular moves, but given a silly name and/or a warm up routine. Some of these have been phased out because they’re simply too much to take, like Hogan’s leg drop or the People’s Elbow - a great spectacle, but a deal breaker as far as suspension of disbelief goes.
Even now, though, there are so-called finishing moves that are just glorified strikes. We’re asked to believe that Roman Reigns’ Superman Punch is more devastating because he pretends his arm is a shotgun. The Phenomenal Forearm looks great when Styles delivers it, but ultimately it’s just a clothesline.
Not every finisher can be as complex as the One Winged Angel or carry the genuine lethality of the Punt Kick, but when your big finale is a move you’ve already done a load of times in the match dressed up slightly, questions have to be asked.
