The 2008 No Mercy Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship was fought between reigning champ Chris Jericho and longtime rival Shawn Michaels.

The two men had been feuding since the Spring and it was one of, if not the, most entertaining WWE feuds of 2008. The feud not only won Wrestling Observer and Pro Wrestling Illustrated's 'Feud Of The Year', it also featured the birth of Jericho's new suited heel character that is often considered the peak of his WWE career.

After the two worked together throughout the summer, with one angle seeing Michaels' wife Rebecca take a legitimate, albeit accidental, punch to the face, Michaels and Jericho squared-off in a Ladder Match to settle their six month long rivalry.

Two of the greatest Ladder Match performers in history lived up to the hype surrounding this match which saw the use of a second ladder, a Lionsault onto a ladder, a run-in by Lance Cade, and a tug-of-war involving the World Heavyweight Championship.

Jericho would be the one to win the match-ending tug-of-war from atop the ladder, concluding one of Y2J's most impressive programs of his career and the second greatest WWE main event in the month of October.
