In addition to being considered the greatest Royal Rumble of all-time, 1992 was an event of many firsts. It was the first time the WWF Championship was up for grabs in the Royal Rumble match, the first time any WWF superstar (Roddy Piper) had an opportunity to win two titles in the same night (The Ultimate Warrior already held the IC title going into WrestleMania VI), and it marked the first time Hulk Hogan was booed by the majority of the crowd.

The undercard was made historic when Roddy Piper (a late replacement for a kayfabe-ill Bret Hart) defeated The Mountie to win his first and only Federation title, the Intercontinental Championship.

As for the classic commentary track, Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan were firing on all cylinders which only added to the enjoyment of the show.

The end of Hulkamania also began at this event with the crowd's reaction following the main event that featured Randy Savage, Jake Roberts, The Undertaker, Sgt. Slaughter, Shawn Michaels, and many other future Hall Of Famers. After over 60 minutes, Ric Flair became the undisputed WWF Champion, last eliminating Sid Justice with the help of Hogan whom the live crowd loudly booed afterwards.

To this day, it's the event by which all Royal Rumbles are judged and it's good enough for the #2 spot.
