The young Eric Bischoff was full of great ideas on how to bring down Vince McMahon's WWE empire - but, all things considered, it's fair to say that getting his lead announcer to read out Monday Night Raw spoilers wasn't one of them.

When Tony Schiavone revealed on the first Nitro of 1999 that Mankind was about to win the world title on the other side, for example, he did not get the desired reaction. Instead of agreeing that Mrs Foley's Baby Boy wasn't main event material, thousands of fans switched over to watch his championship celebrations.

Even if you removed the Monday Night Wars element, this would probably still rank as one of the show's greatest ever moments. Schiavone's reservations - at least in front of the cameras - were shared by Vince McMahon, who was visibly horrified when Mankind captured his biggest prize.

But the fact that it led to a surprise ratings triumph over Hulk Hogan versus Kevin Nash of all matches takes it up several notches. It was one of the great turning points in wrestling's 1990s power struggle, made all the more special by the fact that Foley, a supposed every-man, was on the winning side.
