10 Greatest WWE Referees Ever

1. Dave And Earl Hebner

While Earl Hebner is not only the more famous of the Hebner Brothers but quite possibly the most famous professional wrestling referee of all time, I would be amiss to not mention both here, as Dave and Earl were both part of the most famous referee-angle in wrestling history: the infamous "Evil Twin" appearance that cost Hulk Hogan is WWF Championship to Andre the Giant in February 1988. Dave, unfortunately, broke a rib when kicked by his brother during the culmination of that match, and refereed only sporadically before knee replacement surgery forced him into the role of road agent. But Earl continued, and he would go on to become the most prolific referee in WWF/E history. Earl refereed the main event of every WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and every major event from WrestleMania 4 through 13. He infamously signaled for the bell, declaring Shawn Michaels the victor via submission against Bret Hart, as his part in the 1997 Montreal Screwjob, and for years afterwards Canadian fans would shower him- and his son, Brian, who was a WWE referee as well- with chants of "You screwed Bret!" In 1999, Hebner began a campaign against the McMahon-Helmsley Faction, inciting a strike amongst the WWF referees and even fighting back against Triple H during this time, delivering a fast-count to (temporarily) cause Triple H to lose the WWF Championship to Chris Jericho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EyxsS_rbh0 Hebner was considered the "face" of the WWF referees to the point that- when the WCW/ECW Alliance angle began- he faced and defeated WCW referee Nick Patrick at the Invasion PPV in 2001. Unfortunately, Earl- and later Dave- were released from WWE in July of 2005 for selling WWE merchandise without permission. Hebner took the punishment, and has since become the head referee for TNA, being for the most-part an impartial referee (apart from an on-air romance with Madison Rayne, who won the TNA Women's Knockout Championship with assistance from Hebner, and a couple of lame attempts at re-creating the "Screwjob".) Did I miss your favorite referee, or "screw" your favorite with his placing on the list?
