10 Greatest WWE Stables Of The Past 10 Years
7. Legacy
The idea of throwing a bunch of second and third generation wrestlers together in a stable isn't anything new, but it worked for Legacy. It started with Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase Jr., Manu, and Sim Snuka's attempts at winning Randy Orton's favour in September 2008, with 'The Legend Killer' putting the newcomers through a lengthy series of trials.
Randy would openly chastise the wrestlers for failing to meet his expectations, but eventually granted his allegiance to Rhodes and DiBiase, creating Legacy's most famous form.
Orton's proteges helped him win the 2009 Royal Rumble, when each member of the trio reached the final four, and Randy later became WWE Champion three times throughout the year. Cody and Ted continually helped him to victory during this period, leading to a feud with the reformed D-Generation X, who went 2-1 over the young duo across three pay-per-view matches. Things fell apart the following year. DiBiase and Rhodes turned on their mentor, culminating in a Triple Threat at WrestleMania XXVI, which Orton won.
Legacy ultimately fell short of expectations, as Ted and Cody were continually booked like lackeys rather than legitimate threats, and neither received a meaningful push in the aftermath. Regardless, the initial concept was great, as was their formation angle.
