10 Greatest WWE SummerSlam PPVs Ever
8. 2003
Two years later and the WWE was still in possession of a
rather star-studded roster, as was made apparent at SummerSlam 2003.
The show was headlined by only the second-ever Elimination Chamber bout, featuring Goldberg versus the world as he tore through Randy Orton, Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels before ultimately succumbing to Triple H during his dreaded Reign of Terror.
That blockbuster main event was supported by a WWE Championship bout between Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar, two guys incapable of putting on a bad match together, and Kane vs. Rob Van Dam in a No Holds Barred match as part of the Big Red Machine's memorable de-masking storyline.
Elsewhere on the card there were appearances from Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit and the Undertaker, as the company made good use of the vast array of talent it had its disposal.
The only thing preventing this one from ranking any higher is that previous point about Triple H winning inside the Chamber. Goldberg was absolutely red-hot at the time, and even though he’d win the title the following month at Unforgiven, the company really should have made SummerSlam 2003 the stage on which to crown him champion.
