10 Greatest WWE SummerSlam PPVs Ever

7. 2008

Next up is the 2008 rendition, and no prizes for guessing the best match on this show.

Edge and The Undertaker would close out the evening with a monumental Hell in a Cell encounter, the aftermath of which saw Edge chokeslammed off a ladder and through the canvass, which promptly erupted into flames. Nice.

There was also something of a rarity on the card in the form of a unique Intergender Tag Team match for both the Intercontinental and Women’s Championships with Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix beating Kofi Kingston and Mickie James to capture both straps.

Then there was of course the excellent in-ring segment that saw Chris Jericho accidentally clobber Shawn Michaels’ wife Rebecca with a vicious right hand.

However, the world title bouts weren’t quite on the same level. The event presented Triple H versus the Great Khali for the WWE Championship while CM Punk defended his big gold belt against JBL. Plus, Raw’s main event between John Cena and Batista wasn’t necessarily the barnstormer they’d hoped it would be.

Again, with a main event as strong as this, those details become largely superfluous. An awesome match from an awesome rivalry, and one that left us with many a moment that we wouldn’t be forgetting in a hurry.
