10 Greatest WWE SummerSlam PPVs Ever

3. 2013

Despite the goofy poster provided by SummerSlam 2013, the resultant show was actually a vast improvement on the previous incarnation, thanks in no small part to a pair of awesome main events.

We saw The Best Vs. The Beast as CM Punk tested himself against Brock Lesnar in a No Disqualification match. The pair went at it for 25 minutes, their contrasting styles meshing together perfectly before Lesnar picked up the victory thanks to an F5 onto a steel chair.

That was followed by a brilliant face vs. face showdown between Daniel Bryan and John Cena for the WWE Championship. Here, Bryan would score a huge win, only for Randy Orton to diabolically cash-in his Money in the Bank contract (with an assist from guest referee Triple H) in what proved to be a vital chapter in Bryan’s epic road to redemption at WrestleMania XXX.

We also saw a cracking display of counters from Alberto Del Rio and Christian in World Heavyweight Championship action, a grudge match between former partners Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes, and even a Ring of Fire match - which as a contest may not have set the world alight (pun fully intended) but it was something fresh nonetheless.

A strong card from top to bottom, and one that makes SummerSlam 2013 worthy of a top three spot on this list.
