It's generally overkill when you stretch a feud across four straight pay-per-views (not to mention some free TV matches).

However, the Orton-Christian feud over the World Heavyweight Championship proved to be a pretty compelling story, beginning with two babyfaces competing nobly, with their motivations and character flaws morphing over the course of the saga.

Christian's inability to defeat Orton gave way to underhandedness, desperation, and spite, whereas those qualities brought out Orton's hard-to-control violent outbursts, initially to Christian's benefit. The matches between the two were excellent, with their no-holds-barred match at SummerSlam standing as perhaps Orton's greatest match ever.

It was the best use of Orton, bringing to light his sociopathic tendencies as the rivalry heated up through the summer.
