As a kid, was there anything greater than staying up late on Monday nights in the summer and getting to watch all of WWF Prime Time Wrestling, or for you younger fans, Raw or Nitro? No school the next day, no pressure in your otherwise blissful life...

Man, those were good times. An event like SummerSlam was something you spent your playful summer afternoons looking forward to. Until you remembered that by wanting SummerSlam to hurry up and get here, you were by extension bringing the first day of the next school year closer as well. Phooey.

There is something about wrestling in the summer time though, isn't there? When the rest of TV goes into reruns, there's the perpetually-fresh squared circle action to keep you entertained. With SummerSlam's placement on the calendar as the de facto number two pay-per-view of WWE's, it stands to reason that some historic feuds would get paid off at the landmark event.

Throughout WWE's storied history, the summer season has been a haven for some of their most memorable angles, occurrences, and matches. Even with the dilution of the pay-per-view market, the summer and SummerSlam itself remain important parts of the calendar for WWE.

Here are some of the highlights of dog days past.

10. The Undertaker Vs. Mankind (1996)

With the exception of Undertaker's dipping in and out of the main event scene from time to time, none of his monstrous opponents were really booked to be any match for him.

That changed in 1996 when Mick Foley, beneath a restrictive leather mask, was not only given a virtually-clean win over "The Dead Man" at the 1996 King of the Ring, but a stunning victory at SummerSlam in a "Boiler Room Brawl". The big swerve there was Paul Bearer double-crossing his longtime charge.

It quickly became one of the more compelling stories, that the heretofore unbreakable Undertaker was suddenly meeting his match with an opponent known for his expert handling of pain and suffering, even under a less-familiar name than Foley's fans were used to.
