It's a storyline that is often credited for converting a number of women into regular WWE watchers during The Attitude Era's most rewarding year, creatively.
Helmsley and wife Stephanie shared an uneasy alliance with oblivious dork/wrestling machine Angle, who worked to subtly undermine the cerebral Helmsley by sidling up to a less-guarded Stephanie. As far as wrestling love triangles go, few have been executed better.
From Helmsley's increasing suspicions, to being caught in 'compromising' positions with Trish Stratus, to Angle stealing a kiss from Stephanie while she was in a weary physical state, there were enough clever twists and turns to make even a romance angle palatable to the blood-and-guts Attitude crowd.
The angle unceremoniously ended at Unforgiven with Helmsley winning, which felt abrupt and swift.
