10 Gruesome WWE Injuries That Made Us Sick
6. Brock Lesnar Cuts Randy Orton Hardway (WWE SummerSlam 2016)
Was it a work? Was it a shoot? The former, surprisingly.
Brock Lesnar's victory over Randy Orton at the 2016 SummerSlam was one marred by serious controversy. Neither man was doing much by the time the show rolled around and WWE, in dire need of a quote-unquote "dream" match to spice up a Big Four pay-per-view booked what looked like, on paper, a legitimate dream match. It was fresh, above all else, and Orton delivered some of his best latter-career work.
The match itself was drab. Little-to-nothing happened and then it just ended as Lesnar sat atop 'The Viper', drilling repeated putrid forearms into Orton's forehead to draw a pool of blood. This was the finish WWE had intended - the point of the match was to re-establish Lesnar as an assertive beast whose reputation as such had been hampered by a lack of creative - but Lesnar had been instructed to do it for reasons that remain puzzling.
It triggered a referee stoppage and Orton was legitimately concussed, rendering the whole thing entirely artless and ill-advised - and then Randy Orton was saved by Shane McMahon for literally no reason.
Wrestling Twitter forgets about this little incident when recalling how mint summer of 2016-era WWE was. Wonder why...
