Ric Flair was a bonafide legend of wrestling; the story of his career will be told for as long as grappling happens across the world.

Everybody knows the Nature Boy as a 16-time world champion (except those that remember him winning plenty more belts), but in 2008, he hadn't been at the top of the industry since 2000. Those reigns as WCW got ready to close its doors are hard to think about too; the first lasted for a week and the second was shorter than an episode of Monday Nitro.

The story going into WrestleMania 24 was that if Flair lost another match he'd be forced to retire. When Shawn Michaels challenged the Nature Boy, the writing was on the wall. Fans knew Flair was about to lose, but that didn't stop the emotion spreading through the WWE Universe.

The match was a masterclass, but the ending was next level.

As Flair got to his feet, waving his hands for the Heartbreak Kid to finish him off, there were tears in his eyes. Shawn uttered the words "I'm Sorry, I love you," then nailed him with Sweet Chin Music. The little hug between the two was the icing on the cake. HBK left straight away to let Flair have his moment.

The emotional rollercoaster in the stadium and at home was such a ride. You could tell both wrestlers felt the same as everybody watching; a stellar career was over and Flair never wrestled again...

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
