When Vince McMahon reached deep into his pocket in 2001 to purchase all rights to World Championship Wrestling, the game changed. The sports entertainment giant was without real competition, a fact that would remain in place for almost two decades.

As much as they'd have liked to be, no one else came close to being of real threat to the McMahon-operated empire. TNA? An ill-fated and short-lived move to Monday nights began their 2010s downfall and thus the LOLTNA argument. ROH? They were never real competition, acting as nothing more than a top-of-the-indies operation.

On 1 January 2019, the announcement of All Elite Wrestling's formation on that day's Being The Elite, changed the game again.

Then it changed once more on 25 May with Double or Nothing.

In fact, the game continuously changed throughout 2019, ultimately reaching 2 October with the launch of AEW's weekly broadcast, Dynamite. Going head-to-head with WWE's NXT, which had moved from the WWE Network to the USA Network and adapted to a two-hour timeslot just a couple of weeks prior to the Wednesday Night Wars being declared, All Elite Wrestling had so much to lose and so much to gain, all in one night.
