10 Hilarious Times Wrestling Didn't Take Itself Too Seriously

7. Scott Steiner, Mathematician

What to make of Scott Steiner, simultaneously one of the most ridiculous and frightening men ever to pull on a pair of boots. Early in his career alongside his brother Rick, he was an incredibly athletic wrestler, putting on great matches combining pace, power, and technical skills.

Then, he seemed to get bored of that straight laced, collegiate style, and went a bit mad. In WCW he became Big Poppa Pump and took to wearing chainmail. In TNA, he went further still, becoming a mind bendingly surreal wrestler.

This peaked with his legendary mathematical promo, in which he calculates at length the chances of him winning a match at the upcoming Sacrifice pay per view. It’s hard to follow, with Steiner switching at will between fractions and percentages, but he delivers it with such zest and confidence that you’re happy to accept he’s done his working out.

An instant classic promo, this cemented Steiner as one of the greatest nonsense talkers in the business. Whether or not Steiner was having a laugh is immaterial - this maths lesson is a bonkers masterclass.
