8. Billy And Chuck's Wedding
Not every historic moment on this list has to be entirely positive, and there were clear negatives surrounding the gay wedding situation between Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo. After the 'Invasion' wrapped up, Palumbo was transitioned into a tag-team with another wrestler who wasn't doing much, Gunn. Incredibly, despite them being an afterthought as soon as they joined forces, the duo managed to get over with the fans as prima donna heels. As the calendars marched towards September, Billy and Chuck began displaying more affection for one another. Eventually, they agreed to marry and become 'life partners'. On the September 12th, 2002 edition of Smackdown, the tandem were set to exchange vows in a special ceremony. Smackdown GM Stephanie McMahon would be present, but so would her Raw counterpart. Appearing under disguise, Raw GM Eric Bischoff played the part of the priest overseeing the mock wedding. WWE had received a lot of credit from the gay and lesbian community for booking the segment, but that would change once Billy and Chuck revealed that they weren't actually homosexual and had orchestrated everything as little more than a publicity stunt. Afterwards, those from the gay and lesbian community were outraged that WWE had pulled the wool over their eyes.
