10 Hometown Heroes That Were Embarrassed By WWE

5. Paige In London

Davey Boy Smith wasn’t the only wrestler to be left humiliated in England. Her career has taken a few unfortunate turns lately, but Paige was one of WWE’s hottest acts in 2014. She became Divas Champion after defeating AJ Lee in one of the most impactful debuts in recent WWE history, and at the age of 21, she had the world at her feet.

She defended her championship against Brie Bella and Tamina over the following weeks, but a downturn was just around the corner. With the Divas Title still around her waist, Paige wrestled the eternally pointless Alicia Fox in London, and was inexplicably dealt the first loss of her main roster career. Paige got her win back in a title match a few weeks later, but it was too late to save her credibility.

The Fox loss effectively killed Paige’s incredible momentum. She hit the main roster like a freight train, but fans soon turned on WWE for presenting her as a weak, vulnerable champion, particularly when she lost to Naomi a few weeks later. Paige lost the title back to AJ on June 30th, less than two months after winning it in the first place. She has struggled to serious traction in the division ever since, and it all kicked-off with that disappointing loss on home soil.
