10 Horrible Gimmicks That Wrestlers Pitched THEMSELVES

9. Seven (Or Se7en)

To this day, AEW's Dustin Rhodes bemoans Turner executives who killed his chances of developing the Seven (or Se7en if you're full of late-90s sass and like words with no conceivable pronunciation) character beyond a few introductory vignettes. The former Goldust thinks Seven could've been something special.

It's unsurprising to learn then that he was the one who pitched it; Rhodes based the gimmick on a 1998 movie called Dark City, and figured it'd grab him some attention when he left the WWF for another bash at WCW in '99. Sadly, Turner top brass thought it was too edgy for their networks, so Vince Russo told Dustin they had to squash it.

That was defo a mercy killing.

Dustin still erm...floated to the ring on Nitro before cutting the crap and delivering a scathing shoot promo on everything from the gimmick he'd literally invented (and was playing, albeit temporarily) to the WWF, Goldust and everyone in between.
