10 Horribly Cruel WWE Moments WORSE When You Know The Truth
8. WWE Reference Reid Flair's Suicide Without Telling His Immediate Family
Staying on the subject of atrocious Diva's Division angles, we come to one of the most jaw-droppingly callous segments in WWE history.
In 2015, Paige and Charlotte were embroiled in a feud for the Diva's title as the company finally injected the floundering division with much-needed talent. Unfortunately, the feud ended up being overwhelmed by the inexplicable decision to have Paige reference the tragic suicide of Reid Flair, Charlotte's brother ("Your little baby brother, he didn't have much fight in him, did he?")
As eye-poppingly insensitive as the comment was, you'd expect the WWE to have received permission from Reid's immediate family to use his suicide as storyline fodder. Or, at the very least, to get in touch with them ahead of time to inform them Reid's death would be referred to on RAW.
Sadly, that was not the case. Reid's mother, Elizabeth, found out about the comment the same time as the rest of the world and let her feelings be known in a tweet that read "@WWE @StephMcMahon @VinceMcMahon @TripleH WWEWriters really, that lazy! #CheapHeat #disgusting #disrespectful #cruel #sad #RawGreenville"
Suicide is an extraordinarily heavy subject for a wrestling program to deal with, and WWE using it for cheap heat shows the rotten state the company was in at the time.
