10 Hottest Summer Storylines In WWE History

1. The Summer Of Punk (2011)

With one promo, one man changed the course of the WWE forever. Sitting indian style on the ramp, wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin t-shirt, CM Punk delivered the worked-shoot €œpipe bomb€ promo that had everybody wondering if this was real or fake. Over the next couple weeks, Punk would come out and tell it like it was: about the landscape of the WWE, about the glass ceiling that he and so many others are suffering under, about the talented superstars that WWE simply cast aside, about John Cena€™s undeserved success, about the nature of Vince McMahon and everybody else in power, and about the severe lack of ice cream bars. And we couldn€™t turn our eyes or ears away. Nevermind the fact that Punk was apparently on his way out of the WWE, not to mention wrestling for the WWE Championship in his hometown of Chicago on his last night in the company. The build for the match was Wrestlemania-quality (Punk would say in his DVD documentary that the match against Cena at Money in the Bank 2011 was his Wrestlemania). When Punk defeated Cena to win the title and walk out of the company, nobody had a clue what would happen next. But everybody tuned in to watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mguNZpCqi8 Things got a little muddied after that night with the involvement of Triple H in an authority position and the introduction of a second WWE Championship belt, but from the moment Punk sat down on the ramp in his Stone Cold t-shirt until the moment he walked out of the United Center, that was the most captivating television WWE ever produced.
