Truth be told, it would have been a humongous indictment of the Barclays Center crowd if it failed to give this living legend a huge pop way back in 2015. If you don’t get excited about seeing Jushin Thunder Liger then you may well be one of pro wrestling fandom’s lost souls, wandering the tundra in search of something new to enjoy. Liger is the best, and he deserves your excitement.

Luckily for all involved, the NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn crowd was more than happy to oblige. Liger was scheduled to take on Tyler Breeze in what was little more than a showcase match, a chance for an icon to perform on a big American stage in the modern age. Liger got the win, Liger was always going to get the win, and the whole thing was an absolutely joyous affair.

Prince Pretty was all sorts of popular in NXT at the time, growing into a cult favourite during the revamped show’s early days. Despite this, the reaction to Breeze was dwarfed by that for Liger, a monstrous swell of joy from a crowd thrilled to see one of pro wrestling’s most iconic figures.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
