And after all of those logic flaws, plot holes and narrative conundrums, the grim reality is still gritting teeth through a full four weeks of this nonsense in the run-up to a pay-per-view that, ironically, will probably be broadly enjoyable.

In Brock Lesnar/Jinder Mahal, the company have stumbled into almost a no-win situation. In real terms, the indestructible 'Beast' can't lose to Mahal because of course he can't lose to Jinder f***ing Mahal, but the company have done just about everything else in their power to reap at least one solitary benefit from the misguided Maharaja experiment. A pinfall victory (no matter how pathetically cheap) over the invincible Universal Champion ahead of the long awaited India tour seems but another crushing inevitability.

Meanwhile, the company is so loaded with talent that both elimination matches should deliver huge on the night. The company have proven themselves expert in laying out multi-person affairs this year, and the five-on-five battles should be no different. The aforementioned scrap between The Usos and The Shield has match-of-the-year potential based on the separate efforts of both squads in the past few months.

The broad potential quality of the card only makes the ham-fisted journey that much more frustrating. TNA in the mid-2000s confirmed that pure talent cannot overcome rancid creativity, and WWE have never been so close to aping the much-maligned brand.
