10 Huge Wrestling Matches That Were Given Away On Free TV

6. Sting Vs Ric Flair - WCW United States Championship Match - Nitro, September 4th, 1995

WCW tried to make a big impact on their very first Monday Nitro at the mall of America and they undoubtedly succeeded. While the unexpected appearance of Lex Luger, the Brian Pillman vs Jushin Liger match and Hulk Hogan defending his WCW Title were all appealing factors, it was the epic rematch of Sting vs Flair that distinguished this episode of Nitro from any other. Ever since their rivalry in the early 90's, fans had been clamoring for a rematch between the two - what better way to kick off a new wrestling show than a rematch of one of the best rivalries in wrestling. As good as the technical bout was, it was denied any real finish as Arn Anderson interfered and attacked Flair because the two were feuding. While it seemed WCW were teasing the bout for another time, the two didn't wrestle again until much later as Flair went to reform the four horseman, while Sting went on to team with Luger and would soon undergo a drastic transformation. It wasn't exactly what was advertised, but Sting vs Flair on TV was always a welcome thing.
