Imagine if WWE was a game show and the (almost-certainly male) ring announcer kicked off Crown Jewel just like that. Now imagine it's a wrestling company and that's exactly how this event starts. You can only imagine it, because as we stand on the precipice of a show that simply should not be happening, WWE isn't even the Sports Entertainment monolith it used to be. Not now. Not anymore.
That WWE was a company that made ugly money through dodgy storylines and problematic talents rather than through 45,000,000 contractual obligations a year until 2028. 10. The Bar Vs. The New Day
Glib as it might be to talk about wrestling matches like they'll remotely shine with such a vast shadow cast about this show, The New Day and The Bar are likely to take this steaming pile of chickensh*t and make chicken salad with it anyway.
The duos competed at Super Show-Down last month in a formulaic but fun house show-style encounter, and it's not likely that their Crown Jewel match will exceed the level arrived upon on that night.
Fortunately for WWE, the sheer talent of the five men in the match will be one of several distractions the company will trot out to help fans forget about the horrors that have occurred in the country ahead of the event. It's heft too great for the match to have to carry, but the poor wrestlers are merely those that make the show - not the ones that agree to run it in spite of obvious objections.
