10 Hugely Underrated WWE WrestleMania Matches

5. JBL Vs. Finlay - WrestleMania XXIV

One the most flat-out fun matches in the history of a pay-per-view that takes itself with some seriousness, the Belfast Brawl between JBL and Finlay boasted a richer palette than is broadly remembered, incorporating both brutality and black comedy over a perfect timeframe that never outstayed its welcome.

This was a proper fight fought between two stiff b*stards who never were ones to hold back, but it was the Little B*stard who took the best bump as the former Bradshaw brained him with a bin lid. This was an absolutely hilarious spot despite or probably because JBL is himself a piece of trash. A violent spot fest boasting psychology, this fulfilled perfectly the hot opener remit, one that is quietly among the very best in the show's canon. It wasn't just two warlords smacking into one another with strikes as loud as they were visibly brutal, as great as that would have been in itself and was in parts; JBL and Finlay even stole the classic Chris Benoit/Chris Jericho suicide dive-meets-weapon-shot-to-the-head-sequence, throwing in the odd high spot for the benefit of an audience increasingly expectant of a more spectacular style.

Broken tables, scrambled brains, and an overdue receipt for the most cringe-worthy WWE creation perhaps ever, this was magnificent.
