10 Hyped WWE Debuts That Were CANCELLED
1. Gable Steveson
The first Olympic gold medallist to join the house that McMahon built since Kurt Angle was unsurprisingly advertised as the next Kurt Angle.
Instead of a relatively quick development run into an immensely lucrative main roster rookie year like Angle, however, Gable Steveson has remained an in-training mystery. The few times fans have seen the University of Minnesota standout on TV have revealed that his acting chops make Greg Sestero look like Daniel Day-Lewis. Beyond a big suplex on Chad Gable back at WrestleMania 38, we're yet to get any real look at how his pro-wrestling might be either.
Since signing with the fed, Steveson has reportedly been training under Ken Anderson (...Anderson). The former Mr Money in the Bank has achieved great results with promising upstarts such as Tiffany Stratton and Darius and Dante Martin. In Steveson's case, though, it appears the former WWE fan favorite has met his frustrating match.
Rumors of the Olympian lagging badly in all areas of training have abounded since soon after he started. While his brother has found even footing in NXT, Steveson continues to avoid an in-ring debut. Even his own recent appearances on NXT have cast him in a coaching role. Considering his confirmed return to amateur wrestling, it appears fans will continue to wait for an increasingly less likely Gable Steveson debut.
