It’ll take a sterling effort from WWE’s creative team to produce a feud worse than Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt this year. The storyline was hokey and ineffective when it started last autumn, but things improved considered after Randy joined the Wyatt Family, and the duo became Tag Team Champions. Unfortunately, Randy’s inevitable betrayal dragged everything straight to hell, and resulted in some of the most WrestleCrap-worthy television WWE have produced in years.

Everything from ‘The Viper’ burning down the Wyatt Family compound onwards was a complete disaster. The feud embodied both characters at their absolute worst, with Randy playing a completely unlikable “babyface” protagonist, and Bray descending to the goofy, cartoonish shenanigans that made him a running joke in the first place.

In the ring, Orton vs. Wyatt produced not one, but two front-runners for the year’s worst match. Their WrestleMania 33 bout saw Bray project images of roaches and maggots onto the apron to try and unsettle Orton, but the “House Of Horrors” was somehow worse, and conjured unwanted memories of the absolute worst of WCW’s dying days. Orton, Wyatt, and the WWE Championship have become shambolic because of this mess, and the damage will take months to undo.
