10 Hysterical Times Wrestlers FORCED Each Other To Break Character
5. Colt Cabana In Happier Times
Sami Zayn, as mentioned, elevated the Bloodline angle with a much-needed sense of levity. He had mastered the art of making his peers corpse all the way back in PWG (that’s of course if you subscribe to the hotly-debated theory that Zayn once used ‘El Generico’ as an alias).
Similarities do exist between the two performers - Zayn himself reignited the conversation at WrestleMania 40 by using Generico’s old, demented Brainbustahhh! finish - and thus, at an absolute minimum, Sami was heavily inspired by the reclusive independent scene legend.
At Threemendous II, Generico was buried by Colt Cabana in a backstage promo. Annoyed by Generio’s “sh*tty” promos - all Generico ever said was that he was good and that his opponents weren’t good in crude Spanish - Colt demanded better of his tag team partner.
Generico steeled himself in preparation. This was his moment to cut a promo “like a real American wrestler”. He barked out the names of his enemies, Kenny Omega and Chuck Taylor. He talked with a real sense of menace. This was a promising start.
“Chuck Taylor…Kenny Omega…El Generico numero uno! Kenny Omega, no bueno! No bueno!”
An exasperated Cabana then decided to whisper a promo in Generico’s ear and have him say it verbatim. He told Generico to say “I will eat your children”, but when Generico instead matter of factly said “I eat children!”, Colt was a goner.
