10 Iconic WrestleMania Moments Nobody Will Ever Forget
7. Stone Cold Works His Last Match (WrestleMania 19)
Just as Ric Flair went out on his back at WrestleMania, so too did Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Texas Rattlesnake was the most popular Superstar of his generation and arguably bigger than Hulk Hogan in many respects. He did more for WWE and meant more to its fans than perhaps anyone ever had and his last match was the perfect way to cap off his career. That last match took place with the man that is thought to be Austin's greatest opponent of all time, The Rock. The People's Champ came up as Austin was getting red hot and instead of the company stopping Rocky's forward momentum, he was allowed to grow. The Rock became a bona fide star and he was considered to be Austin's equal in many ways. So it was only fitting that Rocky give Austin his last match in WWE. The bout itself stands out as a great one for both men, not only for the action itself but for the repercussions it had on the business. This was Stone Cold's swan song, the night that he tipped his hat and toasted the crowd in gratitude for their years of undying support. The irony is that very few knew this was the end. It was not until the final bell that fans perhaps began to realize they had just witnessed the end of an era. Austin's exit on the ramp seemed to reinforce this as the feeling became one of understanding yet sorrow. One of their favorites was leaving and he would certainly never be forgotten.
