10 Improvements UFC Has To Make
5. Increase Fight Bonuses
Speaking of fight bonuses, this is a grievance that many active members of the UFC roster feel quite passionately about and rightly so.
If a fighter puts on an absolute clinic or completely obliterates their opponent and wins the Performance or Fight of the Night award - the latter being rewarded to both competitors involved - they currently pocket a $50,000 bonus.
That's obviously not to be sniffed at, but the prize hasn't been altered for a long time and doesn't mirror the increase in revenue or eyes on the product.
Fighters spend months preparing themselves for the moment they step inside the Octagon to risk it all. If that risk pays off and they put on a hell of a show in the process, that performance should be rewarded justly.
Also, with financial obligations already draining fighters' purses, 50k doesn't actually go that far. Factor in the costs of flying your cornermen out or even just the medical bills after a fight and you can already see that bonus starting to take a hit.
Your guys and girls are putting it all on the line to make you money, Dana White. Giving them a bonus prize worth fighting for, is the least you could do.
