10 Inanimate Objects In Wrestling That Somehow Got Over

8. Hacksaw Jim Duggan's 2x4

Why a 2x4? What does a 2x4 even have to do with his gimmick as an American patriot? If we're going all-in on home improvement equipment, shouldn't he be wielding a hacksaw...like his name suggests? Or is the point that he's the hacksaw, and that 2x4 is part of an unfinished craft project he's working on? There are so many questions!

Unfortunately, there are fewer kayfabe answers. Its origins have more to do with self preservation than anything else.

In reality, Duggan started carrying the hunk of wood to the ring with him during his time as the top heel in Southwest Championship Wrestling as a way to ward off unruly fans who took this good guy/bad guy stuff very seriously.

It stuck, for whatever reason, and remained an integral part of the Jim Duggan "mystique" - if there is such a thing - for the rest of his career. In fact, there was a strange period of time in the early '90s where just about every fan in attendance brought in a Hulkamania poster and a fake piece of wood. Because...hey, why not?
