10 Incredible Stories Behind Famous Wrestling Themes

8. WWE Management Hated Goldust's Theme

Making his debut in 1995, Dustin Runnels has remarked in interviews that he didn't know what to make of the Goldust character when it was pitched to him by Vince McMahon. Likely feeling he was being ribbed, the son of Dusty Rhodes nonetheless put his all into the persona, creating one of the most unique visuals for mid-90s wrestling fans in the process.

Androgynous and flat out weird, Goldust certainly stood out from the crowd, and it's safe to say that ringsiders didn't really know what to make of the gimmick at first. Wearing his trademark blonde wig and playing mind games with his opponents, the gold grappler was controversial to say the least.

Fascinatingly, when Jim Johnston sent the music he'd created for the character to WWE higher-ups, they despised it, claiming it didn't really fit the idea they had in mind. Biting back, Johnston tweaked the theme to kick into a faster section, placating management, and ensuring that one of the most memorable pieces of entrance music ever wasn't lost.
