10 Incredible Wrestlers Who STILL Don't Get The Praise They Deserve
1. WALTER
Given his 870-day reign of terror in NXT UK, WALTER might seem like an odd pick here. While he is (mostly) booked as a marquee attraction for the black and yellow brands, the Austrian brute's astonishing ring work deserves even more praise than it gets.
In an age of older, jaded fans (and Jim Cornette) yelling at clouds over a lack of realism between the ropes, WALTER shines brightly in the darkness. His stiff, no-nonsense, technically sound approach to wrestling warfare is flawless in its execution and attention to detail.
While WALTER can brawl with the best of them, his mat work and psychology is where he truly excels. His selling, though understated, is believable and consistent, maintaining his aura of danger whilst playing up the power of his opponents. His penchant for finishing matches with no one move adds an air of danger and unpredictability to his contests as well.
Look no further than his NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff masterpiece with Tyler Bate. Bate looked every bit WALTER's equal without the wXw ace's menacing persona ever losing its credibility. By the time the big man finished Bate with a brutal running lariat, the fans and the referee seemed even more exhausted than the competitors. Their bout had been so hard-hitting and so well-paced that just about any move would've been a believable finish by the endurance-testing 42 minute mark.
You could slot WALTER into any era of wrestling and his top of the line, gritty style would fit like a glove. Simply a once in a generation talent.
