10 Indie Stars Ruined By WWE

7. Nick Dinsmore

Admittedly, part of the reason Nick Dinsmore became such an indie sensation was because of his time spent climbing up the ranks in OVW, a territory formerly owned and operated by WWE.

But though the company (or at least its subsidiary) did a decent job honing in his talent in the late 1990s, his transition to the main roster in 2004 - where he was cast in the role of Eric Bischoff's "special" nephew, Eugene - was woefully mishandled.

This was a dead-end gimmick if ever there was one. Eugene never had a chance of being taken seriously as a legitimate Monday Night Raw force, making it impossible for him to ascend the mid-card ladder, let alone think about challenging for the world title.

Worse than that, the role also killed any hopes he may have had of a repackaging somewhere down the line. It would have been near-impossible for Dinsmore to return under the guise of a no-nonsense heel after previously jumping around a bouncy castle backstage.
