10 Indie Stars Who Were Supposed To Be The Next Big Thing

10. The Amazing Red

The Amazing Red is a wrestler who certainly lives up to his name: he really is amazing, as anyone who has watched the diminutive flyer wrestle over the past fifteen years will readily attest. What Red lacks in size, he more than makes up for in heart and sheer innovation. Indeed, Red (real name Jonathan Figueroa) is responsible for many moves you see in WWE on a regular basis, including the standing shooting star press and the Code Red (standing sunset flip powerbomb). It was moves like these (and a whole lot more) that made Red a hit with tape traders in the early 2000s and landed him gigs with Ring of Honor, All Japan Pro-Wrestling and TNA. Having stellar matches against the likes of Low Ki, AJ Styles, Jerry Lynn and others, Red was being touted as the 'next Rey Mysterio' (who is, incidentally, Red's hero). There were even rumours that Red was going to sign for WWE and play a role in their cruiserweight division, and Red received tryouts on several occasions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JzZiJ2Owfo Unfortunately, Red's career was almost ended by a torn ACL injury, which took him out of action for over a year. When Red returned, he wasn't quite the quick, dynamic performer he once was and he just kind of floundered, wrestling in meaningless X-Division matches, where he was often the loser. Red, who now runs a training school/promotion called House of Glory, last had a WWE tryout in June 2012. The fact that he's now 33-years-old, has a history of serious injuries and runs his own training school probably means that Red is not going to make it to WWE/NXT. If it was going to happen, it would have by now.
