10 Indie Wrestling Easter Eggs That Played Out In WWE

9. Johnny Nitro Was The Best Trent Acid Knockoff Of All Time

If you were a fan of east coast independent wrestling in 2001, you would've been hard pressed to name a bigger can't-miss superstar prospect than Combat Zone Wrestling's Trent Acid. As either half of the Backseat Boyz tag-team with Johnny Kashmere or as a singles competitor, he was handsome, in impeccable physical condition, had oodles of charisma, could wrestle competently as either a babyface or heel, or against monster heavyweights or Japanese/Lucha-style cruiserweights, too. Had Extreme Championship Wrestling never closed, he could've easily been pegged as a future ECW Heavyweight Champion and in all honesty, further down the line, a possible main eventer at Wrestlemania. Sadly though, Trent Acid passed in 2010 at the age of 29 from a drug overdose, his tremendous potential never reached. By 2005 in WWE, a wrestler hit the scene with long dark hair, sculpted six-pack abs, daredevil high-flying skills, and a unique ability to be the man your boyfriend envied and your girlfriend equally adored. And wait? Was he wearing his WWE Tag Team Chanmpionship vertically from his waist so as to make it appear to be a penis? Oh boy. It wasn't Trent Acid, it was Johnny Nitro, and it was a moment where as an independent wrestling fan you hoped that Acid (then in the throes of massive drug addiction) could get his life together in order to actually be himself (instead of John Hennigan's clear homage) on television, if for only one time.
