10 Injuries That Altered WWE's Landscape
5. Roman Reign's Battle With Leukemia (2018)
This one just sucked, didn't it?
Roman Reigns - as we've touched upon earlier in this list - hadn't exactly clicked with the entire WWE universe and his Universal title reign had further exposed just how divisive The Big Dog had become.
That all changed one fateful night on Monday Night Raw in October of 2018.
Dressed in unusually casual clothing, Reigns addressed the crowd as Joe, not the wrestler they'd grown used to booing/cheering - depending on what was cool at the time. This man had just recently discovered that the leukemia he'd spent 11 years battling in private had returned and this meant that he had no choice but to relinquish the big red belt.
Fans voiced their support for Reigns and his years as a polarising entity looked to be over.
Yet, his absence left a gaping hole at the top of the card, which was initially filled by Vince McMahon's very own tomato coloured safety blanket, Brock Lesnar.
However, another concept now had the space to be tested.
The Seth Rollins: Face of WWE experiment.
After winning the Royal Rumble, Rollins would go on to finally slay The Beast Incarnate at WrestleMania 35 for the Universal title and embarked on his own divisive run at the top.
Reigns would kick cancer's ass and return to a warmer response from the crowd, but the landscape that he left was very different to the one he now inhabits.
