The aftermath of these injuries is arguably still being felt today and they probably stand as the key reasons why CM Punk's still so reluctant to step back inside a WWE ring.

After The Voice of the Voiceless' career in the company had ended, it came to light that he'd been working through a nasty lump, broken ribs, injured knees and a few concussions - the last of these cranial traumas coming in his final appearance as a wrestler at the Royal Rumble in 2014.

The constant pressure to be fit, and WWE's own Dr. Chris Amann's apparent indifference towards his plights, led to Punk walking out on the company shortly after the aforementioned Rumble.

This changed everything going into WrestleMania XXX. With the original plan being for Punk to take on Triple H at the showcase event, WWE were forced to change their direction.

In an attempt to appease the noticeably p*ssed off fanbase, Vince McMahon crafted the ultimate underdog storyline which culminated in Daniel Bryan overcoming all three members of Evolution on the same night.

Punk's exit also paved the way for WWE to start taking better care of their performers, with the company now even giving stars time off to recuperate - as seen in Finn Bálor's break mid-2019.

It may have been an ugly separation, but the WWE landscape was altered for the better because of it.
