10 Insane Inspirations Behind Famous Wrestling Gimmicks

3. Raven Was Inspired By Poe's Poem & Point Break

Raven AKA Scott Anthony Levy took his name from the famous poem by Edgar Allan Poe. While that might not come as any kind of surprise, what is somewhat more interesting is that he based the personality of the character on Bodhi - Patrick Swayze's manipulative Zen master of crime in the 1991 film Point Break. Raven was mysterious, stoic, philosophical and eloquent - just like Bodhi - and his promos would often include literary allusions, in reference to the fact that his name was based on a poem by a famous literary figure. He would often end promos by saying "Quoth the Raven, 'Nevermore" - a direct quote from the poem from which he took his name. Point Break and the Raven couldn't be any different if they tried, but they combined to bring us one of the more interesting wrestling gimmicks in recent wrestling history.
