10 Insane Things WWE Will Never Do Again

7. Stage An Invasion

WWE have never made as big a meal of a ‘can’t fail’ angle as they did with the Invasion, which saw the company completely botch the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of pitting their stars against those belonging to their biggest competitors.

The arc wasn’t without its high points, but flopped for a number of reasons. WWE’s inability to attract WCW’s top stars, refusal to book the invaders on equal footing with non-Alliance wrestlers, and decision to turn it into a glorified McMahon family feud were all critical, but its abject failure isn’t the only reason we’ll never see another full-on invasion.

The worst thing about Vince purchasing WCW and ECW was that it killed the industry’s competition forever. Barring a miracle, WWE’s market share will never be challenged again. NJPW and ROH have audiences, but they’re niche promotions, and can’t realistically threaten the ‘E in any meaningful way.

As great as Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito, and Hirooki Goto are, the sad truth is that if they were to invade Raw tomorrow, only a fraction of the audience would know who they are. Even if WWE were to put NJPW out of business, their relative lack of exposure makes another invasion implausible.
