Brian Kendrick's triumphant return to WWE didn't exactly go as planned. While he did receive a full-time contract after his tearful Cruiserweight Classic elimination at the hands of Kota Ibushi, his inability to win the Cruiserweight Championship since has left him taking desperate measures.

The reigning champion, T.J. Perkins, is a former friend and protege of Kendrick's, but the WWE veteran has compromised his principles for one last shot at championship glory. He attacked Perkins on numerous occasions, and even politely asked the champion to lay down for him at Hell in a Cell so that he could have his moment. Perkins, of course, declined.

Kendrick will still have his chance to win the title the old-fashioned way on Sunday, and maybe he should - after all, he's the only fleshed-out heel in the whole division, and the most recognizable star in it. Still, it feels like keeping the belt on Perkins for a while would serve to establish him as a strong champion, make the CWC feel more meaningful, and help the belt in the long run. Smart money is on the champ.
