10 Last WWE Stars To Take Banned Wrestling Moves

8. Kurt Angle - Diving Headbutt

The diving headbutt is such a dangerous manoeuvre that the man who invented it, Harley Race, wished he'd never done so. However, unlike most of the prohibited moves on this list, the danger of the top-rope swan dive does not so much present itself to the person receiving it, but rather performing it.

Dynamite Kid used the headbutt as his finisher across his twenty years in the ring, and ended his life confined to a wheelchair. The tragedy which befell Chris Benoit following a career using the move scarcely needs reiterating. Daniel Bryan, another proponent of the cranial crash, was forced into an early retirement in 2015 following multiple concussions.

It's somewhat surprising then, that WWE have still not outright banned the headbutt - even if in practice, it's effectively off-limits. Only Lars Sullivan is permitted to use the move, and on very special occasions, after his Raw debut dive onto Kurt Angle resulted in widespread condemnation. He's since adopted a running sit-down powerbomb as his finisher, and given his injury issues, it seems unlikely any aerial moves will return to his arsenal if and when he himself does.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
