10 Least Effective Swerve Turns In Wrestling History
3. Jon Stewart
Absolutely nothing changed in the aftermath of SummerSlam 2015.
Jon Stewart served as special guest host and convenient means of sparing John Cena a clean loss. That was it, really, and such contrivances - things of that nature, to borrow a phrase from the man attached to Cena's udders - contributed in part to the complete erosion of fan goodwill. WWE hasn't presented a match boasting full-on lava heat in an age because we know, on some level, it will be retconned or ruined by some increasingly antiquated carny bullsh*t.
After one of the last truly molten atmospheres WWE orchestrated in this Network Era, Stewart rushed the ring, seemingly in order to help his babyface compadre. Telegraphing his real intent like a moron - he shook his head from side to side as if taking in a tennis match - Stewart struck Cena with the steel chair, on which Rollins then delivered the Pedigree to retain his WWE Championship. Rollins was still lucky. Cena still a moron for falling for the same old b*llocks. Stewart, who did this because he didn't want to see Cena equal Ric Flair's record number of World Title wins, was hardly heard from again.
If Stewart truly was a Ric Flair fan, he'd have known that Cena was nowhere close to equalling his record outside of WWE's fantastical narrative, and spared himself a kicking.
