10 Least Effective WWE World Champions Ever

4. The Miz

2016 saw him become one of the most talked about superstars in WWE once more, but this still deserves re-emphasising. The Miz has experienced a total career resurrection over the last 12 months, a time in which he has gone from beyond an afterthought to must-see TV once more. He may have lost the Intercontinental Championship to Dean Ambrose, but returning to the top of the pile may well be in Miz's near future.

If The A-Lister does indeed win a world championship in 2017, he must be hoping and praying that his reign is more effective than his first run with the title back in 2010/11. Miz was the hottest heel on the roster at the time, and when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Randy Orton in November 2010 it seemed as though WWE may well have found a top heel for a decade to come.

Not so. Miz retained his title against Orton via interference in forgettable matches, before moving into a feud with Jerry 'The King' Lawler of all people. For further proof of how toothless Miz was a champion, he was only able to defeat Lawler thanks to the interference of Michael Cole. That's right, the WWE Champion was of secondary importance to a feud between the announcers.

The Miz would go on to headline WrestleMania XXVII, and whilst that can never be taken away from him it must be remembered that Miz was the third most important individual in a match that purely served as a hype package for WrestleMania XXVIII. Miz retained, but the bigger story was The Rock and John Cena kicking their feud off.

The Miz lost the belt a month later, and his career almost had to start again. This was an example of how much damage a poorly booked championship run can do to a performer.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
