9. Dino Bravo

A colossal star in the Montreal territory, Dino Bravo was once so popular that Quebecois wrestling fans received him on a level above even Andre the Giant - with his name on the marquee often pulling houses of up to 20,000 for International Wrestling.

Vince McMahon understood Bravo's drawing power as well as anyone. Plans were put in motion for Dino to face the WWF's Hulk Hogan in a territorial dream match somewhere in Quebec in 1986, with crowds of 40,000 expected to flock to see Montreal's biggest and baddest throwing down with 'The Hulkster.' This was scrapped when McMahon figured out that Bravo, whose popularity surpassed even the biggest global names in Quebec, may have been cheered over Hogan.

Bravo wound up joining the WWF full-time when the territory could fight McMahon's expansion no longer, surviving until 1992 but nosediving following a poorly-received anti-American heel turn in '86. Though big, powerful and imposing, a lacklustre promo game unquestionably played a role in his demise, as Bravo's imperfect English and awkwardly blunt delivery were a millstone, hindering his ability to over in a Vince's Rock 'n' Wrestling world.
