10 Lesser-Known Ridiculous WCW Moments
9. The Return Of Glacier
Glacier's WCW debut was a carefully crafted introduction designed to kick off a stable of Mortal Kombat-themed characters. Glacier himself - with a blue costume, face mask, and allusions to snow and ice - was based on fan favorite Sub-Zero. With his "Blood Runs Cold" video packages, WCW expected him to get over huge. Unfortunately, the angle tanked, as only Mortis (played by Chris Kanyon) was any good.
With all that in mind, when "Blood Runs Colder" adverts began playing at Mayhem 2000, fans were surprised. Even the announcers, in a bit of wrestling meta-commentary, complained about the would-be star's return.
Sure enough, Glacier made his way back - only instead of being a superhero, he was simply someone who believed himself to be a hero. He teamed up with Norman Smiley, but was more concerned with making grandiose entrances and posing than he was with helping his partner.
While the gimmick didn't last long, it was a surprising bit of postmodernism from a failing wrestling organization.
