10 Lessons Learned From Attending WWE NXT TakeOver London

4. The British Like F***ing With Referees

Scamps. Brits traditionally hate authority figures, the rule-setters, and this was apparent throughout TakeOver, as they either pelted the refs with abuse or tried to screw up their counts. There were a number of "the referee's a w**ker" chants during the night, especially during Asuka vs Emma. When the man in the striped top took a bump, there were a few sympathetic 'save... the ref' chants before they were subsumed by the 'w**ker' jeers. Elsetimes, when wrestlers had been thrown to the outside and the fans deemed that the refs had failed in their duty to start counting, they would begin counting for them. When a referee did do their job, and starting counting the wrestlers out, the fans would try and mess with them by counting the next number immediately. Ref: ... one! Crowd: TWO Ref: ... (confused) two Crowd: THREE Ref: ... f - three Crowd: FOUR Rascals.
