10 Lessons WWE Must Learn From WrestleMania 32
2. A Return To PPV?
Something WWE must at least consider for WrestleMania 33, is a one night only return to PPV.
While WrestleMania 32 did an astonishing live gate, it was a different story in its distribution. The event was available free on WWE Network to new subscribers, and retailed for just $9.99 to those who already subscriber.
Putting it in perspective, just one month before 'Mania 32, UFC 196 did 1.5 million PPV buys at $60. The WWE Network was doing about the same number of viewers, but it was either for free or for $9.99.
Basically, WWE have massively devalued their biggest show and made it a bargain product, when it should be a premium product. While the Network is fine for the so-called B shows, it doesn't make sense for events like WrestleMania, when the company could have been making a killing on PPV.
Taking the lesson from 'Mania 32, they should really consider the viability of having Mania as the one show that is solely PPV each year. Presuming that John Cena versus The Undertaker is the main event next year, is that really worth a paltry $9.99?
