6. Rock Becomes A Main Eventer
Going into Survivor Series 1998, The Rock had transformed into "The People's Champion" and entered the WWE Championship tournament at Survivor Series, and carried tremendous crowd support into the event. What ended up happening was one of the greatest one night storylines ever seen.
Being targeted by Vince McMahon, due to his status as "The People's Champion" Rock ended up defeating The Big Bossman in 3 seconds, beating Ken Shamrock via Bossman's nightstick, defeating The Undertaker via DQ, and finally screwing the supposedly Corporate selection, Mankind in the finals.
In the process, it was revealed The Rock was working with McMahon the entire time, and he became the ace of The Corporation, and at the same time winning his first world title.
While Triple H sat out with an injury, The Rock was moving into another class. The two would collide upon HHH's return, but Hunter was clearly a level below The Rock and something needed to be done to get him there. The Rock would go on to headline Wrestlemania 15, but at that same event, Triple H would take a step toward his eventual destiny.
